Google will tell us that when you are looking for a naturopathic doctor, you want the best! And also that it is the hardest word to spell, natural path anyone? I hear you, in fact, I most definitely do my research when I am seeking out my healthcare team. But here is the spoiler alert. There is no single best Naturopathic Doctor, so instead let me walk you through my process of selecting my best healthcare team member when I am looking. Let’s help you find “the best for you” naturopathic doctor.
- Check out their free stuff. Here is mine. Read their bio. Here is mine. This will give you a taste of the person. Or follow them on social. Here are mine. Facebook. Instagram.
- Check out their focus and interest. Not one person is good at everything, and if they pretend to be that might be the hint.
- Best of winners. Can, but doesn’t always line up. I’ve been the best naturopathic doctor in Burnaby. So hey, I’ll let you in on a secret. It’s a bit of a popularity contest and a who you’re going to tell about the voting process. Think about it. When was the last time you waited around to vote for your favourite restaurant, practitioner etc. Never. You always most definitely have more important things to do. So the only time you’ve done it is when you were nudged to do it. No judgment, I’ve done it that’s why I’ve been a winner, but I didn’t want to continue to nudge my patient and raving fans every year. Part of my mission as a doctor is to help you keep first things first.
- Years of experience. Most people get better with experience and patient visits under their belt. I’m better than I was last year and the year before. Because I heavily invest in continuing education and growth. The number of times I have said to patients we are going to this a bit differently because the research on this has shifted and this is a better approach now.
- Commitment to continuing education. This might be a tough one. I know personally I am fairly private. But you could ask the clinic. Has so-and-so done continuing education on this topic? Is this what they consider their jam? Contact my fabulous office manager and ask. She is seriously honest. We do refer people elsewhere all the time. When you’ve been in practice since 2010 you know. Not desperate for people on a roaster. I want the people I can help best.
Cheers,
Dr Melanie DesChatelets ND
