Managing stress is a life skill. Sadly it isn’t a skill that is taught very effectively in our society despite it being one of the most important life skills to have. Stress will always be there in one shape or form. How we respond to that stress is up to us. I feel very fortunately because I was exposed to stress management tools as a little girl. Turns out most of the stress management skills are often high performance skills taught to elite athletes. My father an Olympian taught me early on as a little girl how to monitor my thoughts and calm my competition jitters. These skills have translated into so many aspects of my life and I am realizing now that these are stress management skills necessary for a high performing life. Lessons learnt that went way beyond the benefits of preparing for my 3:30 minute figure skating program.
